About us
started working as a collective in 1989, a flexible project in which additional members were always welcome to participate. Making music was important but sharing the same artistic attitude was the main focus.
Pablo's Eye's wish was to remain simple and open by mixing different musical forms, cultures, and ideas. Their common goal has always been to create a feeling of travelling in time and space, by going from past memories to future hopes. Their aim remains to express the ideal and explore the real through both personal and global stories.
Pablo's Eye have been involved in a number of large-scale collaborative projects which addressed the key issues of our time: nationalism versus mobility; intolerance versus diversity; global communication versus local imperatives. These were all international, cross-media ventures, encompassing architecture, video, theatre, dance, and graphic design.
Pablo's Eye have worked on all kinds of music projects, for such diverse employers as CBS/Sony, ZTT Records, the late President of France François Mitterrand and the Japanese corporation Pioneer. Many of these projects, as well as Pablo's Eye's own music, were released on CDs.
Pablo's Eye have always created strongly-processed graphic imagery to complement their music releases. In 1999 a limited edition CD entitled 'Realismo', was released which was a collaboration between Pablo's Eye and Vaughan Oliver's design team V23 in a joint contribution towards a new 'internationalism'.
Pablo's Eye have worked on commissioned projects for the last 15 years. After a long hiatus, in September 2017 a new CD album entitled 'southlite' was released. The music on this album was recorded in 1999 and was based on a story of the same title by the English writer Richard Skinner a longstanding member of Pablo's Eye.
In May 2018, Pablo's Eye (Axel Libeert & Luc Laret) worked with the artist Robert E. D'Souza and composed the music for his film installation 'Dev' which was premiered at Tate Modern in London.
2018 also marked the beginning of a close collaboration with Ziggy Devriendt's (aka Nosedrip) heritage label STROOM 〰. A series of three anthologies were curated by Devriendt (2 vinyls LP & 1 vinyl EP).
‘Spring Break’ was the first release in the STROOM〰 series, it presented the softer air-beating of P.E., the maxi 12” compilation ‘Bardo for Pablo’ focused on the more tribal/dance floor side of P.E. and in January 2019 ‘Dark Matter’ the third and final part in the anthology series pulled for the most part from the more ominous and unsettling works from Pablo's Eye.

2019, marked the 30th year of Pablo's Eye's loose existence and with the release of the trilogy on STROOM〰 Pablo's Eye felt ready for a 'live' experience. A series of concerts were played including a performance at Berlin Atonal Festival 2019 - Main Stage.
A whole atmosphere was created to bring the music live. The live show spanned the full spectrum of PE's music. 22 tracks were put together, like 22 chapters of a book. The visual artist Johan Coopman and the English writer Richard Skinner were immediately keen on collaborating to the project. The live performance was interlaced with a film projected in synchronization with the music during the whole set.

In February 2020, Pablo's Eye were approached by Longform Editions Australia. A new track 'Tentative d'épuisement d'un lieu parisien' was released on their deep listening music digital platform.
The music was based on Richard Skinner’s essay, “Georges Perec’s Tentative d'épuisement d'un lieu parisien" (An attempt at exhausting a place in Paris). In October 1974, the French writer Georges Perec spent three days at Le Café de la Mairie in Place Saint-Sulpice, Paris, recording everything that passed through his field of vision. A wonderful exercise in observation and description. Pablo's Eye tried to relive sonically with Georges Perec in mind their drifting away in Place Saint-Sulpice in Paris, a special place in their heart.
