Nana Esi
Nana Esi is a graphic designer and visual artist based in Ostend (Belgium). Nana is the art director of the heritage label STROOM 〰 and she is also the co-founder of Atelier Brenda a graphic design studio based in Brussels.
Nana designed the 4 covers of Pablo's Eye's releases on STROOM 〰 as well as an 'obi' (sash/outsert) to enable the packaging of the trilogy released in 2019.
The collaboration with Pablo's Eye started in 2018 with the release of 'Spring Break' for which Nana managed to break the usual Pablo’s Eye’s design aesthetic in a very striking way. The portrait of Chris and Pee (Nana’s parents displayed as one person on the front cover) is emotional, intense and powerful.
Nana’s artwork for 'Bardo for Pablo' is enigmatic notably through her choice of a photo of herself by Tiny Geeroms on the front cover. On the back cover Nana reprinted Richard Skinner’s poem ‘Bardo for Pablo' and visually translated the poem into a new form. Words are floating, drifting up and down or sideways taking you slowly to their own choreography.
'Dark Matter' is completing the trilogy. This time Nana's choice was a photo by Sofie Middernacht & Maarten Alexander which illustrates beautifully the ominous and unsettling music of this album.
The cover of the album 'The light was sharp, our eyes were open' is Nana latest collaboration with Pablo's Eye.
